Behold Our God – Genesis 6

Behold Our God – Genesis 6

Who is our God? What is He like?

He is an all-knowing, all-seeing God.

Chapter six opens up with a very troubling scene.  The beautiful creation that was fashioned by the handiwork of God has been corrupted.  That which was once described as “very good” has now, as the result of the fall of man and the effects of sin been grossly altered and fallen into deep depravity.  The tragedy that stands out the most in this current condition, is sadly, the one part of God’s creation that He chose to stamp with His image. Man has corrupted, and God is not ignorant of it.  In fact, what we learn about God in this chapter is both awe-inspiring and terrifying at the same time. Consider what verse 5 says:

And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

First, we learn that God “saw” it.  He saw it then and He sees it now. Man’s sin is never hidden from the Omniscient One.  The Bible is clear time and again that our sin will be exposed. The second thing that we notice is the precision with which God examines and searches out sin.  The Scripture says that He was aware of “every imagination of the thoughts of his heart” and that he judged that those thoughts were “only evil continually.” Friends, God not only sees our sin, but He sees down into the deep recesses of our heart, down to the motives behind every single wicked imagination.  He is not pleased. He is not mocked. However, He is certainly grieved in His heart. Beware for:

…there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. (Luke 12:2)

Behold our God!
